A short work sheet introducing students to slang and common words used in Mexico. Also included is a section on Nahuatl/Aztec words that came through Spanish into English.
In the first section, students are to guess the English equivalent of words based upon context clues: the first five items are in Spanish sentences, the last five in English sentences. The second section has students match words with English. The final is a matching between Nahuatl origin words and the English version.
One possible extension/scaffolding option would be to have students provide another Spanish word/phrase as a synonym.
A great activity to add to a cultural unit on Mexico or as a fun break to help students recognize the variety within the Spanish language.
