Discussing family trees in class can often result as a complicated task due to family conflicts and issues. I have found this project to be easier to do with my students.
After learning the vocabulary terms and how to describe family members with adjectives and other simple phrases, the students write simple paragraphs about their family members.
Each paragraph is added to a flower petal of their choice or from a given pattern. They place all the petals to make a flower with a stem and flower pot. In the flower pot the students describe themselves. Some students choose to add pictures or draw their own.
Every year when I have done this, my students have loved the finished product!
