This activity draws students in by having them thinking about categorizing the food they eat using the new My Plate system. Gone are the days of the food pyramid we grew up with!
This activity ties into Health by having students identify the grains, meats, fruits, vegetables and dairy items that students eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Student begin by identifying the items that belong in each category of My Plate. On the second page, students practice conjugating some of the common verbs from any food unit. Student then think and draw an ideal, healthy meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lastly, students label and then write about each meal.
The writing aspect of this activity gives students the ability to practice their writing and have it edited by the classroom teacher or their peers.
