This is a project description and rubric. The project asks the students to:
• Draw and name/label 20 places in Spanish (bank, salon, school, post office, library, park, gym, movie theater, etc.)
• Draw and name/label 9 streets in Spanish (la calle Principal, la avenida San Bernadino, la calle San Pablo, la avenida San Martín, etc.)
• Use symbols to indicate what the building is, in addition to the Spanish word
• Write a Spanish sentence for where you go each day of the week. For this, the Spanish question you are answering is ¿Adónde vas? (these sentences should be written on the back of your blueprint)
ex) Los lunes voy a la escuela por autobús.
The rubric rates the project on the following criterion:
ON TIME / USE OF CLASS-TIME*
20 PLACES/BUILDING LABELED IN SPANISH W/ SYMBOL
ONE SENTENCE FOR EACH OF THE 7 DAYS OF THE WE
ACCURACY (SPELLING / SYMBOLS / LABELS)
My students need to use class-time appropriately, so this is part of my grading. Most projects I assign are in class assignments for my own reasons. This does not have to weigh as heavily for your students.
There are about 30 black and white symbols that depict places the students may choose to include on their maps / blueprints.
The project usually takes 3-4 days and up to a week in 45 minute class periods. Please keep in mind that the entire project is completed in class by my students.
I assign this project as a summative assessment for the closure of my nit on places, locations, community and neighborhood.
