This lighthouse research project takes about two weeks to complete and can be done individually or in groups of two or three.
Students choose one of the lighthouses in Michigan and began researching on the first day. They can use http://www.lighthousefriends.com/mi.htm to get a lot of their information. If every group cannot have some type of technology, you could print out the information from this page.
To be sure that all pieces get completed, the project is broken down in detail. There is also a space for the teacher to sign after each piece has been done. This allows you to check their progress and make sure they are on the right track to finish with a product that contains everything the rubric asks for.
Their goal is to write a research paper and create a poster giving details about one lighthouse in Michigan.
