Use Kefir grains to teach your students about good bacterial growth! This lesson plan comes with a student question and observation page and helps them to practice thesis writing.
Activity requires a few supplies including kefir grains, jar, milk (raw or whole) and a fridge. Students will make inferences about kefir, how it replicates, and what it will look like after 24 hours. They will then have the chance to taste the kefir alone or blended up in a smoothie. This lesson takes two days: day one to teach and inquire, day two to observe and analyze.
Because this lesson deals with dairy, check with your students about food allergies. Suggested for upper grade classrooms.
