Microscope Images of Diatoms in an E-Book - Stephanodiscus - Nitzschia - Synedra - Aulacoseria - silica - Cocconeis -diatomaceous earth - Neidium
Diatoms are single-celled plant-like organisms that are found everywhere in natural waters. They cannot be seen by the naked eye, but they are important in aquatic food chains because they provide food for filter feeding zooplankton that are, in turn, eaten by fish. When they live on surfaces of aquatic plants and on rocks, diatoms are food for grazing animals like snails. They provide much of the oxygen in our world.
This E-Book includes 16 pages of pictures and information about diatoms. The images have been enlarged with a scanning electron microscope (SEM).
