Students will be able to compare onion cells to cheek cells in this microscope lab. The students have already completed microscope lab #2 so they are familiar with making their own slide. I first make sure that I get parent permission because each student will be scraping the inside of their mouths to get cheek cells. Some parents might be worried because of the issue of working with saliva. This activity supports Grade Seven California State Science Standard 7A - Select and use appropriate tools and technology (including calculators, computers, balances, spring scales, microscopes, and binoculars) to perform tests, collect data, and display data. and Grade Seven California State Science Standard 1B - Students know the characteristics that distinguish plant cells from animal cells,
including chloroplasts and cell walls.
