Kids love using microscopes for the first time. This lesson bundle seeks to capture that excitement with a balance of science content and curious exploration. Middle students will benefit the most as we have included some key middle level vocabulary concepts. The three lessons included here will take about four days to complete. Although this time can be extended based on student interest, we once spent a whole day looking at water samples from our aquarium filter (try it sometime!).
In the first lesson students will learn how to handle microscopes and what parts move and their names. In the second lesson students create a variety of different slides, learning essential lab techniques and challenging other students skills. In the final lab students will create wet mounts of cheek and onion cells. You will need basic lab gear for this lesson including microscopes, slides and coverslips.
