In my new series of Excel assignments, students will learn Excel on a deeper level using the video method. In this method, students watch a video that shows how to do each feature in the assignment, but does not take them through the actual assignment. The video now includes a Table of Contents, which allows the student to skip or re-watch needed features. The student then uses the step by step directions to complete the assignment with a provided starter.
This method has proven more effective than traditional demonstration, as it requires a higher level of thinking and retention. In Lesson 2, students will learn about common FORMULAS in Excel: add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculating percentages, and formatting currency and percentages. No functions are used. The assignment is designed with a "score sheet" which will automatically tally up the score and give the student immediate feedback as to whether they have done it correctly. This lesson is classroom tested.
