In my new series of Excel assignments, students will learn Excel on a deeper level using the video method. In this method, students watch a video that shows how to do each feature in the assignment, but does not take them through the actual assignment. The video now includes a Table of Contents, which allows the student to skip or re-watch needed features. The student then uses the step by step directions to complete the assignment with a provided starter.
This method has proven more effective than traditional demonstration, as it requires a higher level of thinking and retention. In Lesson 3, students will learn about common FUNCTIONS in Excel, both Math and Text. They will learn SUM, MAX, AVERAGE, CONCATENATE, COUNTIF, and MID, among others. The assignment is designed with a "score sheet" which will automatically tally up the score and give the student immediate feedback as to whether they have done it correctly.
This lesson is classroom tested. The kids really learn a lot from it and it's amazing to watch their progress!
