This is the first lesson in my new 2013 Excel series. This lesson is designed to be done before starting Lesson 1. The 11-minute video is accompanies with a worksheet where students will label the parts of an Excel spreadsheet, and then answer basic questions about widening columns, ranges, functions, formulas, and more. Its a great way to make certain that all students have the basics before beginning the full course.
In my new series of Excel assignments, students will learn Excel on a deeper level using the video method. In this method, students watch a video that shows how to do each feature in the assignment, but does not take them through the actual assignment. The video now includes a Table of Contents, which allows the student to skip or re-watch needed features. The student then uses the step by step directions to complete the assignment with a provided starter.
This method has proven more effective than traditional demonstration, as it requires a higher level of thinking and retention. Lesson 8 is a fun an interactive assignment best done together as a class, but it does include a step by step video.
The first lesson in the series can be found here.
