Microsoft Word 2010 Activity- Using the Page Borders Button to Format Poems
This fun assignment can be used in a Microsoft Office/Keyboarding, etc. class. This download contains a title page, 6-page direction document, 10 poem documents, and an evaluation sheet for the assignment that is an Excel spreadsheet. The assignment consists of the students formatting and typing 10 poems by children's author Shel Silverstein. Students will practice using the Page Borders button to do things such as: apply page borders- line and art, apply borders around text, apply shading or patterns to text, apply horizontal lines, etc. Students will also practice using different fonts, inserting clip art and Internet images, using horizontal centering, etc.
The title page is the document you see when searching for this item- image posted. The directions document contains general directions (step-by-step) on how to do everything and also step-by-step directions on how to format each poem. Next are the 10 documents that are the poems- 3 are extra credit. All the poems are formatted with beautiful art borders, horizontal lines, shading, different fonts, pictures, etc. that students need to copy and do themselves. The poems are as follows: Rockabye, Eight Balloons, Sick, Bear in There, Kidnapped, How Not to Have to Dry the Dishes, Ations, Moon-Catchin' Net, Overdues, and Clarence. Again, these are all poems by children's author Shel Silverstein. Next is the evaluation sheet that you can use to evaluate student work.
This download is everything you need - NO PREP- for a lesson on using the Page Borders button, etc. in Word. It will take students about 3 days to complete if the class periods are about 45 mins. and you go over directions, etc. It could be a little less if you have fast typists!
Note: When you print it out and put the packet together, put the title page first, the direction pages, and then put the poems in order of how they appear in the directions pages.
This is a great resource to have. It will save you tons of time. Students will enjoy typing the poems and learning all the cool formatting features that can be done in Word.
