This 3 step reading (with visuals) traces some of the most famous lives and stories of the Crusades in fun detail. Learn about the incredible Eleanor of Aquitaine and her competitive sons, King Richard and King John, ending with the famous signing of the history-altering Magna Carta. The focus is less on the violence committed in the Holy Land and more the drama and intrigue happening between nobility back in Europe. I included a fun activity in which students storyboard the important events of Eleanor and Richard's lives into a 4-panel cartoon for Eleanor and a 6-panel cartoon for Richard. Their lives are so interesting that they seem to be calling out for a TV show or movie, so I get students excited to storyboard their future productions. They often get quite creative. For the 3rd reading, about King John and the Magna Carta, I included questions to answer and a summarizing activity.
