This is a project that I use as a formative assessment for the Middle Ages. It is designed like a layered instruction project. Students need to do several tasks to add up to 50 points. It provides student choice and different modes of learning. For example, students can choose to use their artistic skills to demonstrate their understanding.
There are three different sections. The 5 point section has tasks on the lower end of Bloom's taxonomy. The 10 point section requires slightly higher level thinking and the 25 point section requires additional critical thinking such as evaluating. There are 5 choices in each section. They choose which tasks they want to complete. They need to do at least one task in each section.
5 + 5 + 5 + 10 + 25 = 50
5 + 10 + 10 + 25 =50
Included is also a checklist so that student and teacher can keep track of what they're working on.
I also included a scaffolded template for one of the most challenging tasks. (25 point section)
Feel free to adapt it to your own needs. Let me know if you have any questions.
