Students are asked to create Valentine cards that reflect the tenets and stages of courtly love, including the ideals of chivalry. The assignment provides a list of ideas to consider (idealization of the beloved, attraction via the eyes, etc.). Further, students are reminded to make thoughtful choices about color, images, and text. The end products will reflect students' true understanding of the principles of courtly love and chivalry. This activity is perfect in the middle of a unit on chivalric literature, such as "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" and "Le Morte Darthur".
