Aim: What factors led the to the expansion into the Middle Colonies?
• The learner will be able to identify the causes that led to the expansion of the Dutch to the middle colonies by examining a series of primary and secondary source documents.
• The learner will be able to explain the significance of the navigation acts and mercantilist practices imposed by Great Britain by examining a series of secondary source documents.
• The learner will be able to infer how conflicts can arise between Great Britain and the colonies by making an inference based on a political cartoon and reading.
Do Now Activity: Students will examine a map of the Middle Colonies and use the legend, compass title and geographical skills to answer a series of guided questions.
Document Activity: Students will answer a series of guided questions from documents including Mercantilism, Navigation Acts and the purpose for migration of why individuals came to North America.
Exit Ticket: Students will examine a political cartoon from the mercantilist argument along with a small reading passage and answer a series of guided questions.
