A wonderful introduction to printmaking using self-portraits as the subject matter. Great, natural overlapping of the pop art style. Professionally formatted lesson plan include the NEW national standards, lesson objectives, anticipatory set, guided instruction, supply list, closure and suggestions for modifications where applicable. This lesson was road tested with my fifth grade classes, but could be scaled up or down depending on your own classroom and experience.
In this lesson I have suggested two types of printmaking activities, but you could easily substitute your favorite printmaking media. The lesson concludes with a collage and possible poetry connection, time permitting. This unit took (five) forty minute classes, not including a half-class where I showed a pop art video when they finished a lesson early.
Homeschoolers could definitely explore making their own gelatin plates for an extension activity.
I have included nine student works and two teacher example for your reference or to share with your class. Files are zipped due to size. Four lesson plans are in word so you may edit as needed. Images are jpg.
