This behavior intervention for middle school will help your team manage disruptive behavior quickly and efficiently. Students are passed out of class to another team member for the duration of the class period. Includes a pass slip, a PASS assignment sheet, teacher directions and student directions.
We implemented this pass the student out of class system, and it worked well. The whole team and your administrator must be on board, and passing should only be used as a last resort instead of an office referral.
It works as follows. If a student is given a pass slip, they must quietly gather their things and leave the classroom and go to the teacher they are assigned. In that class, they must work quietly on their assignment and not disrupt that class or face an immediate office referral by that teacher. If they have no written work, you can give them the PASS assignment sheet for reflection. Three passes result in an office referral. (This is a good way to document interventions before sending a student to the office.)
Additionally, students must have their parents sign the bottom portion of the pass slip and return the entire letter to school the next day. This is also helpful in documenting that you made parent contact. Keep in student file.
This plan really helped us manage student behavior that was inappropriate, and made it easy for our administrator to see exactly what the problems were, because when we wrote an office referral, we just attached copies of the pass slip.
I hope this helps you with your behavior management plan.
