All files are in MS Word, making them editable and customizable for your classroom. I used these in my 7th and 8th grade Integrated Language Arts (ILA) classes and loved how well they worked. Help get your students making and evaluating their own predictions!
The Pre-Reading Survey has students identify unknown words in the synopsis or flipping through the first chapter. In my classroom we had the following rule: if you found no new or unknown words in the synopsis or first chapter, the book was below your level and you needed to choose something different, two to four unknown words in the synopsis would be on level, five or more is too difficult or at the frustration level.
The essay provides detailed instructions on what students should include in each paragraph, including examples of literary terms. Sentence minimums are also provided.
Requirements also include proper MLA citations and a works cited page.
Feel free to use this material in your own classroom! Edit it to fit your own needs. I also change the sentence minimums for students with disabilities.
