Description

This is a straightforward and quick 10-question quiz on the basics of DNA.

Students must be able to:

  • Identify the phosphate, sugar, and bases in a simple diagram of DNA
  • Identify the proper pairing of bases in a simple diagram of DNA
  • Identify the function of DNA
  • Know the definition of "genes"
  • Know where DNA is located in the cell

Two similar versions are provided. Wandering eyes will see a quiz that looks like their own, but has different answer choices. So, if they copy, they won't have the correct answer.

NGSSMS-LS3-1
Develop and use a model to describe why structural changes to genes (mutations) located on chromosomes may affect proteins and may result in harmful, beneficial, or neutral effects to the structure and function of the organism. Emphasis is on conceptual understanding that changes in genetic material may result in making different proteins. Assessment does not include specific changes at the molecular level, mechanisms for protein synthesis, or specific types of mutations.
