Students use this chart to jot down their thinking about a reading selection. It can be done at the beginning of every class as bell work or at the beginning of a book club, literacy circle, or novel study, and then students discuss and build upon each other's ideas. When they read the portion they made predictions about, they reflect on what actually happened, make connections, jot ideas down again, and collaborate. This can be ongoing for homework, for a chapter, for a whole book, for any literary piece, and it can take as long as the teacher would like it to. It can also be done as an exit ticket and/or formative assessment.
