Product Description
These directions (there are two half sheets on one paper) can be laminated and placed in learning stations, on desks, or kept in student folders, or it could be made larger and turned into a classroom poster. Additional directions could be added for etiquette and what students are expected to do in the chat. See below for ideas...

A back channel chat is a place where students can collaborate online. This can be done as bell work, with a question posed as students enter the class. It can be used after students have partner discussions and then they share what they discussed with the rest of the class and continue a whole group discussion. It can be given as homework, where students have to respond to a prompt and then engage with peers. It can be done during a presentation or a lecture, where students can annotate the presentation and then the presenters can refer to it at the end of a presentation and answer questions, comment on ideas, or begin a whole group discussion.
