This is a great first and last week of school activity for the middle school years of 6, 7 and 8th grades. All students need to complete this activity is a pen and themselves. Perfect for before textbooks are handed out and after they have been collected up at the end of the year.
This activity makes use of creative thinking processes in addition to memory recall and writing skills maintenance and development. It also encourages introspection and promotes positive self worth while creating a few moments of quiet classtime as students complete the worksheet activity. The time at the end of the year that the class spends reviewing the student's responses creates peer engagement and additional self awareness while promoting social understanding, anti-bullying and empathy. It is also the perfect activity for book return day as it is primarily a student controlled lesson. Did we mention, it's fun too!
Prep Time - minimal. Decorate the "Time Capsule" bag with markers and print the worksheet. May require additional time to print worksheet again if Option A is used.
Class Time - 2 to 3 class periods (45 min - 1 hr each). One early in year. One end of year. Option A adds 1 period to end of year.
