It is always tough to create an ice breaker activity with middle school students that is fun for them yet meaningful. I came up with this activity to be used within the first few days of school when our team is teaching expectations. The PowerPoint gives an overview of the activity. We also write a team mission and create a bulletin board in our hallway. The hands the students create are put on the bulletin board along with the mission we write as a team. The words displayed are, " We all have a hand in our mission." This is kept up all year and referred to. It really gives the team a sense of a common purpose. This then leads into our first lab in science which is connected to the hands. That lab will be posted next.Spend at least two class periods on this and allow for time to encourage them to draw and/or attach pictures. You will learn a great deal about your new students.
