Science is vitally important, but there’s no need for YOU to reinvent the wheel!
These are the latest (released 2013) middle school Next Generation Science Standards that will be used across the nation to meet Marzano and similar initiatives. They are the equivalent of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Science. Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs) incorporating both science and those specific to engineering are included, in case your school prefers that format.
This set is for Life Science. This is the version that states what the students should be able to do or understand.
These are intended to be printed for posting in classrooms, in easy to read large fonts in landscape layout; but a checklist for student/parent/teacher use is included as well, along with a Table of Contents.
PLEASE NOTE: The need to make the language child-friendly becomes less significant as the grade level increases. Efforts were made to retain as much of the NGSS language as possible for middle school grades, only making changes to eliminate redundancies and create less wordy phrasings for display purposes.
The listed standards should be referenced for a more in-depth understanding and original wording: http://www.nextgenscience.org/
I know how hard we teachers work, and hope this will help make your job a tiny bit easier!
Please see my listings for the other strands and versions of middle school science standards. Thank you!
