TASK CARD: SORT IT OUT!
TEKS 8.3b Estimate and find solutions to application problems involving percents and proportional relationships such as similarity and rates
Materials needed: Calculator and a partner.
Your task is to:
• Sort all the cards according to their Fraction, Decimal, Percent equivalents.
• Once you have sorted them into their equivalents, turn them over and work the problems.
• Record the equivalence set, your work, and your solution on the Sort It Out record sheet.
• Turn in your Sort It Out record sheet to your teacher.
You will need prepare this activity by copying all 8 problem cards onto the back of all 8 FD% equivalency cards.
Card stock will work best.
Next cut the 2-sided copies (problem on one side, FD% equivalencies on other) along the dotted lines to produce 24 cut pieces.
Mix the card pieces around so that equivalent pieces aren’t next to each other.
Then, place the card pieces in a baggie along with task card for kids to Sort Out during this activity.
The key will depend upon which FD% set you copy onto which problem.
Prepare your key based on this.

Willie buys a pair of sunglasses for $9.59, a pair of sandals for $15.39, and a shirt for $24.79. If Willie pays $3.94 in sales tax, about what percent is the sales tax rate?
