Description
This project combines the responsibility of students to make a name tag with them designing clues about themselves to equal a target number. Student mathematical reasoning, number skills, and a fun getting to know you activity are all rolled into one!
For the student:
This project has been designed to give middle school math students a way to demonstrate some critical thinking skills, creativity, and give students information about themselves to their peers.
For the teacher:
This activity is differentiated because students can work at their own level of creating clues.
Students also will create their own name tags (no more writing out names for multiple classes!)

Super helpful!
good way to practice math skills
Great activity, thanks!
Fun for the kids.
This was a fun activity...just took a bit longer than anticipated.
Hi - I'm really looking forward to using this in the fall but I think I need more directions. Should they put their real name as the mathematician name? I'm unclear regarding the clues and how they need to equal the target number. This looks like a very cool activity.
Hi! The kids love this activity. They should use their name as the mathematician name. The kids write clues about themselves such as: I am - years old. Add this answer to the number of sports I play. Etc. I make the target # my room number (505) but you could make the target # anything you'd like. It's helpful if you create a sample about yourself (like the one in the purchase) and share with the kids so they have a sample.
Great activity for a "get to know you".
So creative!
