Julie and her mom both realize that the jeans’ ticketed price is missing. However, they both think they can figure out the final cost of the jeans. Julie’s mom says, “Since the jeans were already reduced 25 percent and are being reduced again by 40 percent, then they are on sale for 65 percent off.” Julie disagrees.
1. Julie thinks the reduction of 25% followed by a reduction of 40% is the way to calculate the final price. What would the final sale price be using Julie’s method?
2. If Julie’s mother calculated the cost of the jeans, what would the sale price be?
