With all of the theory books out there, it is difficult to determine a good course of action for music theory study in the middle school choral classroom. This document is intended to help lay out music elements that middle school students "should" know by 7th/8th grade (as dictated by national and MI state standards and theory method books). The product is intended to help you sort through what to teach.
This is just a helper; YOU pick what is important for your own school, and YOU plan how to teach and assess these elements.
It is NOT a lesson plan, but rather an overview of music theory concepts- some specific for the choir setting. It should help you structure your class to get middle school students ready to ready music- in choir especially!
