This lesson is compatible with the Middle School Next Generation Science Standard* MS-PS1-1. The standard states that students should, “[d]evelop models to describe the atomic composition of simple molecules and extended structures.”

Explore the abstract science of atoms and molecules this hands-on visual lesson. It includes worksheets, an assessment, and a fun project where students will make molecules, such as caffeine and adrenaline, out of toothpicks and Play Dough.

Here is what’s included in the lesson:

-A Middle School Physical Science NGSS* Award Certificate to give to students who meet the objectives of the lesson

-7 pages of vocabulary cards related to the topic of atoms and molecules

-3 pages of a worksheet/activity on the topic of atoms and molecules

-A 4-page project on the topic of atoms and molecules, including molecule picture and information cards

-A 2-page assessment covering the lesson objectives and Next Generation Science Standards*

-A comprehensive lesson plan including:
Title, Grade, Objectives, NGSS*, Materials Needed, Connections to Real Life, Connections Across the Curriculum, Anticipated Difficulties with the Content, Pre-Requisite Knowledge, Key Vocabulary, Lesson Delivery Method, Examples for Better Understanding, Assessment, Wrap Up and Review, Extensions, and Modifications.

This lesson can be used in any Middle School Physical Science course, or as a home school or enrichment lesson.
