Challenge your students to figure out "Which is More?" by having them work together to apply proportional reasoning skills in this engaging Jigsaw activity. This activity requires students to compare ratios, and then write a mathematical argument with a claim and written and mathematical evidence to support their answer.
This activity can be used as a diagnostic assessment at the beginning of a unit to uncover the knowledge (and possible misunderstandings) your students have which will inform your instruction throughout the rest of the unit. It can also be useful as a formative assessment after your students have learned various strategies for comparing ratios or determining proportionality to see how students apply those strategies in the context of a word problem.
