Product Description
This packet guides students through the reading of historical, science, realistic (Michigan 8th grade genres) fiction AND a choice other fiction extra credit book. I use these packets (four pages each--2 pages copied back to back) during March is Reading Month to keep them focused on skills/concepts we have already been working on: identifying vocabulary in context, asking/answering their own questions about literature, locating proof in the literature to defend the genre, and locating and articulating themes/proof of themes. I require the first three packets, as explained on the grading rubric (included) but make the first packet worth more points than the second, second worth more points than the third, etc. to encourage students who may not be able to read all four books in one month. Of course, teachers could further differentiate by simply not requiring some students to read all of the books.
