This is a one hour to 90 minute lab / activity that focuses on the importance of recycling, the average recyclable content of American trash and the ability to interpret and produce graphs. Student groups will receive a bag of household "trash," consisting of metals, glass, plastic and paper present in approximately accurate ratios. Students will read and discuss background info, sort into recyclable/non-recyclable piles, then sort according to type. Students will graph their results and answer relevant questions. Addresses renewable / non-renewable resources, ecology and other environmental issues.
