This lab is an engaging and multipurpose guided inquiry lab which can be used to teach experimental design, isolating variables, understanding what conditions need to be kept constant, deciding on an independent and dependent variables, measuring average speed, and creating a full-fledged lab report. Great activity for the first week back to school because it reviews and reinforces the scientific method and it is easily accessible even if the student knows nothing about speed and a great review if they do.
Something else that makes this great for the first week back? Very few supplies are needed :) Paper, scissors, a meter stick, paper clips and a timing device.
I have also included two logic puzzles with this product - one easier, the other more challenging for your early finishers. Your students will enjoy the challenge of the logic puzzle and you will love how the puzzles strengthen their critical thinking skills!
This lab is identical to the one I have posted here:Middle School Science Calculating Speed Lab
with the main difference being the latter includes a powerpoint about speed, velocity, and average speed while this product removes that lens and concentrates on the design of the experiment and inquiry skills.
For a limited time, this product is bundled with my popular scientific method bundle, metric system unit, task cards, jeopardy games, and other inquiry-style labs in my back to school Mega Bundle.
