I feel like I see the same misspellings over… and over… and over. The difference among there/their/they're or between hear/here are just some of the many that repeatedly seem to happen in the middle school students' writing. So, I made the decision to include a small spelling component as a part of my school's required vocabulary program.
This includes ALL of the word lists that I used throughout the year. Each list includes five-six words.
For students' vocabulary test, I would read sentences that included the given spelling word and the students would write the word with its correct spelling. I would NOT, however, indicate what the word was; this required students to 1) know the words and 2) be able to differentiate between meanings.
