While preparing to do a novel study, I knew I wanted something that my students could keep notes on, while at the same time giving them flexibility in what they write. I most remember, while in school, loving to read just to read!! So, by giving my students some freedom in the notes they take, I hope to foster that real love of literature and reading just because it's so darn great! :)
I used this same format (just tweaked for middle school) for my second graders during Guided Reading workshop time. I punched a hole in the corner of the thinkmarks and put a "key ring" fastening through them so kids wouldn't loose them, but I think this time around I might have them keep the thinkmarks in their Interactive Notebooks. Enjoy!
