This is a recording sheet for day 1 of introducing new vocabulary words to students. For this activity, students will be in groups of 4 or 5. Each student in group will receive a new vocabulary word. Under the new words, there needs to be two sentences that can help the student predict what the new word may mean, using context clues. After the student reads the new word and sentences, he/she will fill out this sheet and share his/her prediction with group members. Once the group decides on a "final definition" for this word, he/she will write in on the board. Teacher then goes through each word with class and/or has student share his/her definition with class to teach the class. This sheet has been very helpful in our classroom and students look forward to this activity which gives them a chance to figure out a definition to a new word and teach it.
