Thanks for checking out First Grade Cupcakes!
This is a great packet to use for teaching beginning writers to write sequence narrative paragraphs. I use it with my first graders, but it could be used with kindergarteners or second graders as well.
I use the first set of three pages (I Do) to model and have my students copy what I write. I use the second set of three pages (We Do) to have my students help me write a complete paragraph. On the third set of three pages (You Do), my students write independently as I check their work and give feedback. On the last set of three pages (Exit Slip), my students are completely independent, and I can use it to assess their work.
I copy each page on one side of the paper only. This makes it easier for my students to put the papers side by side to copy their complete sentences onto the second page. As we go over each criterion in the Proofreading Checklist, I have my students make tally marks on the lines for each error or put a checkmark in the box if there are no errors for that criterion. This way, they have a record of each type of error and can correct it independently. I have also used the Proofreading Checklist to have students peer edit and as a rubric when I grade their final drafts. I often reprint only the last page for my students' successive drafts.
I hope you find this product useful. If so, check out my Beginning Sequence Paragraph Packet and Expert Sequence Paragraph Packet to continue challenging your writers. Enjoy!
