There's two pages of notes at the beginning that you could give out and have students fill out independently. I've always bolded the new word so that they could read the definition and example themselves.
There are then five versions of vocabulary quizzes afterwards. The words are NOT all covered in the notes, but there's a fair bit of repetition and I tried to build in some "gimmes" for students so that if they're paying attention, sometimes an answer is given away in one of the previous questions so that they're forced to pay attention.
I'm making this a word document so that you can edit it if you want. In total there are two pages of vocab notes and then five quizzes. It would require you to teach some of the words, but it would be a nice resource on days when you're absent where students could do some amount of self-study as well as teach themselves.
I've used it as both an assessment and as a group activity where they have to pool their knowledge.
