This is the perfect project to go with your unit on Special Segments of a Triangle in Geometry. It involves drawing midsegments of a triangle to create a neat and artistic fractal image.
This hands-on activity asks students to use rulers to find the midpoints of segments of a triangle, then connect the midpoints to create a similar triangle that is "half" the size of the original. This process is repeated so that the student has at least 4 sizes of triangles, or "iterations." The included worksheet not only gives students step-by-step instructions, but it also asks the students to find the area of the new triangles and asks them to look for patterns and draw conclusions about the area and the number of triangles.
Included in this purchase:
1) Student instructions/ worksheet/ rubric
2) Sample student work
3) Teacher "Key" (an Excel File that will easily tabulate the areas and answers for each student's unique triangle)
4) Links to You Tube videos about Fractals (used for motivation)
