In English 10 I had the students focus on the topic of Blind Love in the play. When I did not have time to do a full process essay or more than 4 paragraphs I had them do what I called Mini-Essays.
This lesson starts with a handout to complete brainstorming information. It gives an event in the play and the student needs to connect it to what it means in our society today. For example, it begins with Helena begging for Demetrius's love. This is like in our society when a women is in an abusive relationship is blinded to the negatives/abuse.
Then based on a Thesis Chart I have started and a Thesis Statement I have started students choose 2 topics of interest from the beginning chart. They create their thesis and then outline their essay. They are making connections to events in the play to our society, but using evidence from the play to support their points.
