Have you ever been looking for a way to liven up an objective students are already familiar with from previous grade-levels? Migration is one of those such objectives that my students have already learned about in kindergarten and first grade. So in my 2nd grade classroom we dug a little deeper...
Students discovered animals beyond birds that migrate, including whales and butterflies, through previous lessons. Then they took on the role of a marketing executive/advertiser as they designed a billboard for a living organism who migrates for the winter. What they designed WOWed me! Their billboards were adorable and creative (see the student sample in the preview for yourself!)
You can use this mini-project for any grade-level that studies migration because of the open-ended nature of creating a billboard. By purchasing this product, you'll be able to provide students with a letter from Mother Nature to hook their interest, the Migration Billboard Checklist to guide their work and to use as assessment, and two student samples. I have also included a link to a tutorial for Google Draw, the program my students used to create their billboards.
