I created this 3 page flip chart for my students to glue in their science journals. Page 1 includes the title, "Organisms Surviving Seasonal Changes," and flaps for Migration, Hibernation, Adaptation, and Dormancy. Page 2 gives a definition of each term in kid friendly language. Page 3 includes examples to be cut and pasted underneath the definition flap.
It is important that students understand that living things are called organisms. For that reason, the title uses the word organisms and then the definition flaps use the term “living things.”
Migration – duck, whale, Monarch butterfly
Hibernation – bear, skunk, snake
Adaptation – Arctic hare and fox (fur changes color),
reindeer (grows a thicker fur)
Dormancy – tree (I have included 4 trees so students can use markers or color pencils to show spring, summer, fall, and winter under that tab). Have students label each season and then circle the one showing dormancy.
