Is it time to talk about the military and war in your English class? This is a complete unit packet for ESL/EFL/English learners. Students will learn a wide array of language related to warfare and the military. Students will have discussions and debates about the causes of war, wars in history, personal experiences and beliefs about war, and more. Throughout the unit, they will also get practice seeing and using perfect modal verbs to express relief and regrets about the past (i.e., "Napolean shouldn't have invaded Russia. He should've realized that his army was too small to occupy Russia and that they never would have been able to handle such severe winter weather.") Internet access is helpful for discussion portions of this unit, especially if students do not already know much about war. The grammar portion is meant to be taught with an accompanying grammar book (such as Betty Azar's "Understanding and Using English") or for review of concepts already taught.
