This colorful lesson is so much fun! The students really like the dramatic results in this activity. This lesson includes response pages, interactive notebook inserts and also an article explaining the science behind the activity. Students will read the article and practice their CCSS reading informational text skills.

This lesson is aligned with 5th grade CCSS for reading and writing and aligned with 5th grade NGSS.

NGSS 5-PS1-1. Develop a model to describe that matter is made of particles too small to be seen.
NGSS 5-PS1-4. Conduct an investigation to determine whether the mixing of two or more substances results in new substances.

This lesson can easily be adapted for other grade levels.
