The Million Dollar Budgeting Project is perfect for money units, enrichment, end of the year, personal financial literacy, and extension activities!
The Million Dollar Project is a great way to have students practice many skills! The premise of the project is that students inherit 1 million dollars! The project lists specific things that they must buy for their family - a home less than $500,000, set aside money in a savings account, pay for college, buy a car, etc. Using research and budgeting skills, students will look up the costs for homes in their areas and research the cost of a college with four years of tuition. When buying a home and a car, students are required to also buy insurance.
Students will need to use computers to research homes for sale, college tuition prices, and cars. If technology is not available for students, considering already having pages printed with sample homes, cars, and colleges for students to use!
This project includes LIFE CARDS! Life cards are used to either add or deduct money from students' budgets based on real life events - replacing the roof, flood insurance, selling items online, birthday checks etc.
