1 Powerpoint: Figure Sculpture, Body Language

This lesson introduces students to the idea of using body language to portray emotion in sculpture. Students will practice portraying body language. Students will view artwork by well known artists that exemplify the use of body language to communicate meaning. Students will practice drawing figures from life. Students will make a wire frame. Students will work with peers to discuss artwork in process. Students will use paper mache to build up form and paint it to reflect the depicted emotion. Students will use higher-level thinking such as: envisioning, visual-spatial exploration, critical analysis, evaluating and metacognitive processes. This lesson is important because it introduces students to a very traditional medium, sculpture, in fun and financially accessible way.
