~ Focuses on THINKING and ART MAKING
~ Uses mind-centered lesson plan template
2 powerpoints: Logo/Character Design & Poster Design
This lesson focuses on design principles, and visual communication of a personal cause using colored pencils and markers. Students will choose a personal cause and list important supporting ideas using a mind map. Students will understand the meaning and application of a logo, font, cause, and design scheme. Students will plan and make a final colored drawing of a logo and character that will represent their new imaginary organization. Students will give feedback to their peers during an in-process critique. Students will understand and apply the design principles: unity and balance. Students will create a poster that is unified, balanced and uses appropriate design principles as designated by the teacher. It is aligned to National Standards. This lesson is important because it addresses an aspect of the art world that is prevalent both in everyday life and in the job market for students interested in working as a visual artist. Additionally, it guides students to use higher level thinking such as: forming an opinion based on experience, critical analysis, evaluating and metacognitive processes.
