Description

When poetry is taught in a relevant and engaging way, you will find that your students get genuinely excited about writing it! This project is all about your students- their passions, interests, fears, hopes, and dreams. It gives your students a podium to stand on to share their opinions, heal old wounds, make others laugh, and to make an impact in the classroom and beyond.

In this unit, students will use higher-order thinking and creative processes to make and present a “Mind Mansion Poetry Project” to their classmates. Students will demonstrate their knowledge of types of poetry, figurative language, and poetic devices through the creation of at least six different poems. They will be required to analyze their own use of figurative language and the types of poetry that they are using within their project.

This product includes:

- “Mind Mansion Project Overview”: Contains step by step instructions for facilitating students in creating a mind mansion (The focus is on the project itself, it does not include lesson plans for the different types of poetry or figurative language, but it does contain suggestions and tips)

- A PowerPoint (and PDF) of example “Mind Mansion Projects”

- Rubric included for easy grading
